American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 Information

The Energy Office is a division of the Arizona Department of Commerce and is receiving $129 million as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. This funding will be distributed in staggered amounts by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to the Energy Office and will be administered over a three-year period.

(Energy Star) Appliance Rebate Program
8-28-09: DOE approved an initial application by the Energy Office to participate in the (Energy Star) Appliance Rebate Program. Arizona was awarded $6.2 million and has submitted a budget and program details as part of the final application process on October 15. More information, as to which appliances will be part of Arizona's rebate program, will be posted upon final DOE approval.


Energy Emergency Preparedness
8/12/09: DOE approved the Arizona Department of Commerce Energy Office’s initial application and awarded $796,410 to improve the state's energy emergency preparedness plans and ensure quick recovery and restoration from any energy supply disruptions. A portion of this award, $159,292, was provided to the Energy Office to submit a final program budget to DOE by November 10, 2009. The final program budget was submitted to DOE on November 9, 2009 and is pending DOE approval.



The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is an existing program that will be expanded with $57 million in ARRA funding. This program provides weatherization services to Arizonans based on income. The WAP has an established local service delivery network comprised of non-profit or governmental organizations that provides services in specific geographic areas of Arizona.


The State Energy Program (SEP) is an existing program that will be expanded with $55.4 million in ARRA funding. Guidelines or partial guidelines have been developed for six programs within the SEP. The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG) was funded for the first time by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
