Funding is divided among 'Direct and Non-Direct' entities. 'Direct' entities are: cities or towns with a population of more than 35,000 (based on 2007 U.S. Census figures); top ten populated counties; and Tribal Communities in Arizona that are eligible for funding directly from the U.S. Department of Energy. 'Non-Direct' entities are cities or towns with a population below 35,000 and the remaining five Arizona counties that are eligible for funding directly from the Arizona Department of Commerce Energy Office. The purpose of the EECBG program is to help local governments reduce greenhouse gases and promote energy efficiency in their jurisdictions. Funds can be used community wide, not only for government owned facilities and infrastructure.
