GOVERNOR GIVES ARIZONA INNOVATION AWARD TO
KINGMAN REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
Award is First for Mohave County

PHOENIX – Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC) received an Arizona Innovation Award from Governor Napolitano today for its commitment to bringing the latest in medical treatments and procedures to rural/greater Arizona. KRMC becomes the first recipient in Mohave County to receive an Arizona Innovation Award.

“This hospital is dedicated to its mission of providing the latest in medical advances to area residents,” the Governor said. “Enabling rural patients to have access to new and effective methods of disease diagnostics and therapies close to home is a huge step forward in innovation.”

Governor Napolitano presented the award to KRMC CEO Brian Turney at a ceremony in the hospital’s Healing Garden, an outdoor area of the facility used by patients to relax and recover. Napolitano applauded the hospital for providing patients with specialized diagnostics, and treatments in cardiac care, cancer, sleep disorders and other illnesses. KRMC is the first rural teaching hospital in the state training more doctors for Mohave County and Greater Arizona.

KRMC is a not-for-profit facility owned and operated by the local hospital district. All funding above and beyond the cost of operating the hospital is used to purchase new equipment, supplies or improve the Center. The facility was recently recognized by a national health care financial consulting firm as one of the top 100 hospitals in the country for value provided to the local community – the only Arizona hospital to receive that recognition. Governor Napolitano is Chair of the National Governors Association, and has spearheaded Innovation America as her Chair’s initiative. Innovation America focuses on improving states’ abilities to compete in the global economy by modernizing our education systems with increased science, technology, engineering and math, enabling post-secondary education to better support innovation, and creating a more knowledge and technology focused business climate.
